Advantages of Waterjet Garnet:
- High specific gravity allows unique filter designs. In combination with other filter media, higher flow rates, higher loadings, and better filtration can be achieved.
- High hardness reduces attrition and provides for years of reliable service.
- An excellent support bed for other high-density media.
Typical Applications of Waterjet Garnet:
- Garnet 60 Mesh (High Speed Cutting)
- Garnet 80 Mesh (Precision Edge (Industry Standard))
- Garnet 120 Mesh (High Precision Edge)
- As an abrasive garnet can be broadly divided into two categories, blasting grade and water jet grade. As it is mined and collected, the garnet is crushed to more refined grains; all pieces that are larger than 60 mesh (250 micrometers) are typically used for sandblasting. The parts between 60 mesh (250 micrometers) and 200 mesh (74 micrometers) are usually used for water jet cutting. The remaining garnet pieces more acceptable than 200 mesh (74 micrometers) are used for glass polishing and lapping. Regardless of the application, the larger grain sizes are used for faster work, and the smaller ones are used for more refined finishes.
- Garnet sand is a suitable abrasive and a standard replacement for silica sand in sandblasting. Alluvial garnet grains, which are rounder, are more suitable for such blasting treatments. Mixed with very high-pressure water, garnet is used to cut steel and other materials in water jets. For water jet cutting, garnet extracted from hard rock is suitable since it is more angular and more efficient in cutting.
- Garnet paper is favored by cabinetmakers for finishing bare wood.
- Garnet sand is also used for water filtration media.
- Used in non-skid surfaces and heavily as a semi-precious stone
